The Newport Ski Club is based out of Newport, Rhode Island, with its ski lodge located near the base of Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vermont. The club was founded in 1955 by a group of skiers from the Naval Underwater Ordinance Station who wanted to organize their ski activities.
The club works to provide economical facilities for skiing and snowboarding through collective and individual participation, promote other outdoor activities and provide social activities for its members. The success of the club can be traced to active participation of its members. The Newport Ski Club is governed by its by-laws and Invitation to Ski, which set out membership obligations and lodge operations.
The ten-bedroom lodge sleeps 46 and is within walking distance of the Okemo base lodge. Members and their guests have use of the lodge year round. Everyone who stays at the lodge pitches in to keep things running, including meal preparation and clean up.
The Newport Ski Club is a member of the Connecticut Ski Council (CSC), a regional ski association made up of ski clubs from Connecticut and bordering states.
The Club is currently accepting applications for new members.
